Official Warppipe/DemaSked Discussion

Postby brandnew707 on Mon Dec 13, 2004 12:45 pm

I've been asked to start a new topic about the whole Warppipe ordeal so we can start fresh.

Please refer to the for previous discussion of Warp Pipe / Demasked.

Please, stay on topic this time, people. The old topic is locked and I don't want a beast of a topic to ever get locked. So try this time people.

____________________________________________________________

Original Thread:

According to Warp Pipe staff, and N-Sider's staff, Nintendo has still more BIG information to reveal about the DS, and select few media sites know what it is. The question is, what is it?

I've been researching this for about an hour, and this is what I've picked up.

Originally, on the N-Sider forums, Dean Bergmann hinted at something BIG to come with the DS in this post:

    Quote:

    *whistles*
    If you say so

He then later adds on to his posts...:

In response to above.. I'll say nothing but this:

You're lost in the woods of a city, and you know there are others there. But how do you know they're there if you're lost? I know the answer.

A very interesting comment. Another grueling hint:

    You'll see mid october.

And finally, the picture that started all the theories, along with a comment:

    Image

I can't say much due to security reasons, obviously it's something really innovative and will revolutionize multiplay. but that's all i can say, i cant tell you specifics yet -- I can drop hints though, so perhaps you can piece the puzzle togeter... give it some personality.

He then mentions the staff of Warp Pipe also dropping hints. So, naturally, I stopped over at that forum as well.

Even more weird hints. Chad, the guy from Warp Pipe, posted a few pictures concerning this new BIG announcement, and they still stump me. Here they are:

    Image

    A side view:

    Image

Now, heres where it gets super confusing, but at the same time seems to make sense. If you havn't caught on yet, this all seems to lead to an online type of multiplay that will supposedly "revolutionize multiplay." So basically, it's gonna kick ass. Strangley enough, someone typed in Marionette into Google and got this image:

    Image

See the resemblence? And if you look at the words "Find me," you'll see a lighter "d" between the words....and they spell "ds." Weird. So, Marionette could in reality mean Mario Net. A type of Service to go along with this new way to play.

Another freaky and weird image that drops hints:

    Image

If you spell it backwards, it spells "Anti-Isolation." Hmmm...

So, this is all I have right now. Please, do me a favor, and discuss this with me.

You can play detective yourself at the forums:

My idea:

DS option paks have already been confirmed. By using a Flash Cart (not advance wars like some idiot here posted), you can generate a cycle that will show all the notifications of the DS. One of these notifications is "DS Option Pak Inserted blah blah".

Also, it has been confirmed by Feel The Magic, and just by general hacking, that the DS can draw information and data from the GBA port, and use it in games and system software (pictochat, etc) actively.

And, we know that NiFi isn't really anything. I'm not bashing nintendo like that guy at XLINK was, but honestly, nintendo didn't really make its own protocol. The protocol has been broken into standard wifi by tunnelers in a week after launch. So we know NiFi is easy to decode.

So what can we surmise from all this?

DeMasked is probably going to be a "DS Option Pak" that decodes Ni-Fi into standard wifi, and allows you to play online through wifi as if you were playing wirelessly with someone in the same room.

I predict that it will be a double size GBA cart. GBA carts have sizes up to triple the standard mb rate, and there are modified carts like this sold by nintendo (ala Boktai, Kirby Pinball...these are all mod carts sold by nintendo). DeMasked will probably be one of these carts, but with more memory.

Then, you will plug the DeMasked cart into your DS, put the DS game in the top, and boot it. The DeMasked cart will boot first like a gameshark, and then will decode the nifi so any game in the DS and Pictochat and any other system applications that have not been released yet will be able to go online. Also, the cart itself will have XBOXLive style services, hence the recent quote that 'the psp won't be our biggest enemy, microsoft will'.

Or at least, that is what i think it is. I don't really know if this fits in with any of the clues, cause i got really pissed after seeing the marionnette clue. (i got all excited thinking we'd get RO on DS lol) But it does fit in with some of the stuff going in in DS dev.

So uh, thats my 2 cents. {And like i said before, if you wanna follow the dev of the DS, you can hit up #DS #Nintendo DS #Dual-Scene #DSDev and #GBADev if you are on efnet.}

Chad said that you won't have to buy anything to use DemaSked, I believe. Sorry.

Mebe they'll be freebies?

I just don't see how DenaSked can pull it off if you don't need to buy anything. Would you have to go to a retailer and download what is needed, from a place like EB? Alot of people don't have those kind of places nearby. I say it is either an option pak (Which I would prefer, even if I have to pay, it's just convenient.) or a downloadable DS firmware upgrade.

Meh, I dunno, I just hope it works, however they do it.

They wouldn't give it out for free. And yes, he said: All you need is 149.99 to be DemaSked. That does NOT mean that you need something extra, it's probably built into the DS but the actual place on the internet is not ready yet. That would explain the delay. My theory is that it's going to be something to activate the region of the DS where it does the "magic". So maybe you might just have to go to a store to get the software. And I think that the thing where the DS can get signals from the GBA slot while playing a DS game (like in feel the magic) will only be used for the RumblePak so that the DS can send/receive signals to/from the RumblePak. I think it's an awesome idea.

149.99.............................That doesn't have to be the DS, jus cus it has the exact same price  woah, that would suck, huh? J/k
But really, i don't think your topic was locked. And, devillon, don't call people idiots, its not nice.

Everybody, check that video, "Aloneatthetop." See if its still there, I'm too lazy too look for the link. I think Chad has some explaining to do...... :?

I'm pretty sure Lik-Sang opened a DS and took pictures a couple of days before launch. I don't think they found anything out of the ordinary.

I hope that Nintendo does announce something big soon. If they are working with warp pipe, or have online plans or anything of that sort, I don't see why it's so important to keep it secret now.

Didn't Nintendo announce they were working on an online program with Square-Enix? I don't have a link or anything, but I seem to remember reading that somewhere...

Square-Enix was talking about a MMORPG on the DS, if that's what your thinking of.

PSO was also confirmed, i believe.

I remember reading a Gizmodo post that talked about the rectangle port on the DS. This was back in june, when we didn't know what the rectangle port was for, and everyone was flipping out about the idea of crazy peripherals. Gizmodo posted pics of the first DS headset, and revealed that the rectangle port was for headsets.

Later in that same post, the guy said "this will be great for PSO"

Thats what initially got me excited about the DS, 'cause i love teh PSO. :D

So can anyone confirm this? It isn't on any sites yet, like gamespot, and isn't on any game lists, but i remember that one post making it seem like we would get PSO. If someone could find that gizmodo post, they'd get 5 awesome points from me >_> lol.

And back to the topic of demasked, yea, the only problem with my idea is that chad said demasked would be free. But he never actaully came out and said that. He said something that made people think DeMasked would be free.

But think about it. Unless he finds a way to load DeMasked onto the DS itself, like, onto its ROM, then how can you NOT pay for it? He can't go out giving away any hardware, because WarpPipe would go broke. And he needs to give out hardware anyway he does DeMasked.

The only way he could make DeMasked free is if:
A) It gets loaded onto the DS' rom.
B) It is already on the DS, in the rom, and no one has found it yet, and there is no hardware markings for it.
C) It is just some tunneling software.

But it is neither of those things. For A to work, nintendo would have to come out with a delivery system that would allow data to be sent from a central station (like a kiosk in an EB or something) to the DS, and saved to the rom. I don't think nintendo has announced these yet.

For B to work, uhm, you'd have to ignore the fact that there is nothing like DeMasked on the sheet to the FCC, and that out of all the hardcore hackers going through the DS, none of them have uncovered this feature.

And for sure, DeMasked is not C, a tunneleing software program for a device other than the DS. Why? Because Team XLINK, and others, have successfully tunneled the DS within a week of the DS being released. So if they were able to do it, than why are there so many DeMasked delays?

So i think we are just misinterpreting what Chad/whoever said when they said that DeMasked would be free. I think DeMasked will cost something up-front, but after that, there will be no chard (like, free monthly).

Could someone show me that quote?

HELP!: I don't care. >>;;

EDIT: Stop posting the Marionette pic. ;_; it makes me sad 'cause it reminds me we won't be getting RO for DS. ;_;_;_;

DS Update recently did an interview with Chad. Here it is:

If you don't want to read it, here are the important parts:

DS Update: Earlier in the week one of the Warp Pipe members claimed that Microsoft will be your competition for DS Online is this true?

Chad: In a question regarding tunneling competition, I made a note that no longer will any tunneling application be considered competition for Warp Pipe Technologies, as tunneling is no longer our core competency. One of our many competitors is indeed Microsoft. For what product or service? I am not at liberty to say.
___________________________

DS Update: Do you plan to have your Demasked service continue and evolve to other systems?

Chad: There have been no official announcements on what platforms the Demasked service will run on.
______________________________

DS Update: When can we expect an announcement on Demasked? Earlier you specified 2005, can you be more specific?

Chad: I cannot be specific, but I wouldn't expect to hear anything before E3.

*******************************

No word on Demasked until E3? Yep.

WOAH! Did he say it might run on more than one platform?! That's awesome, it might run on the GC or the Revolution (Next N console). That would be awesome.

EDIT: To keep this thread on topic, let's brainstorm what microsoft product that DemaSked could be competing with. The Xbox is too obvious of an answer, so it has to be something else. And he just confirmed that it's not tunneling. So eliminates that theory and that there is something else in there that will be activated is also disproved. So post which microsoft product you think it will compete with.

Perhaps he doesn't mean direct competition. Perhaps he means M$ has copyrighted a technique or feature that needs to be used in DeMasked.

Just my 2 cents.

Maybe it's a new service M$ (laughs, thanks for the idea) is making for Xbox 2 and it's N's version of it so it can compete instead of just loosing. And to add an extra good thing in there, maybe it will work on all the N systems and the future ones too. This is exciting!

lets pray not.......and I quote from somebody earlier.......

"God, lets pray Microsoft doesn't try to make a handheld. It'll be like 4 times the size of the DS."

That would be funny, but, the graphics would rock, and they would make it have like no load times. It would be called the MS, or something ripped from Nintendo us.

They could say that MS stands for Middle Screen, and have 3 inch screen in the center of a "Handheld" the size of a school text book.

Microsoft already tried making a handheld. It was called the Xboy.

I'm not making this up.

They gave up on it awhile back, like in 2002 i think, and stated that would not attempt to enter the "portable gaming market", but "that decision does not exclude us from entering the portable media player market" (ala Apple Ipod/Other PMPs). And as we have seen, they have entered the PMP market, without an entry into the Portable Gaming market, so we can safely assume that they won't be entering.

Also, aside from the XBOX, microsoft really doesn't do hardware. They usually make software for hardware, or purchase hardware from distributers and put the "Microsoft" logo on it. For example, microsoft doesn't make its own routers, they buy them form a router ODM.

So if we did see a microsoft handheld, it would probably be something like the Zodiac, but running WinCE, or Mobile. Not a totally new handheld.

I doubt Crystal Chronicles will be there MMORPG, just cause DemaSked won't even be revealed until some time after E3 this year, and FF:CC is SUPPOSEDLY going to be released in February... so are a lot of games... doubt any of them will happen in time though... *COUGH* Anyways, I hope there MMORPG is completely new, not a new FF game.

dude micro soft barely even made the Xbox. I think of them as sponsers that bought it.

and lets face it guys. They wouldn't make it huge like angrymonkee said. Guys! the Xbox isn't really that big! just because the PS2 and GC are smaller doesn't exactly qualify it as huge!!!
