I've been researching this for about an hour, and this is what I've picked up.

I did an image search for Marionette and saw a picture of a flat mario marionette. This was dated 2000, and could have been a early prototype of Paper Mario.

Hey I read through this and had a thought that I had to register to post -
I think the dog on the path is an allusion to animal crossing. So maybe there will be some kind of Animal Crossing MMORPG type game or something..

That the kid is taking a photo of the dog?
A built in camera, or add on into the rectangle port... share your photos maybe with other DS owners.

The "secret port" is for a headset.
NEW HINT:Chad wrote:Their custom concern for the people Build up the monuments and steeples To wear out our eyes I get up just about noon My head sends a message for me to reach for my shoes and then walk Gotta go to work, gotta go to work, gotta have a job Goes through the parking lot fields Doesn't see no signs that they will yield And then thought, this'll never end This'll never end, this'll never stop Message read on the bathroom wall Says, "I don't feel at all like I fall." These lyrics posted by Chad are from a Modest Mouse song called Custom Concern. It's on the album "This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing to Think About".
Any wildly exagerated interpretations, anybody?

Well the guy in the song obviously doesn't think about what he's doing. His brain just tells him and he obeys. Think that has anything to do with it?

(Wow, I found that fast.)
But I really don't think it's that important to listen to the song.

I think there's only a few lyrics that we should be focusing on: Chad wrote:Their custom concern for the people Build up the monuments and steeples To wear out our eyes I get up just about noon My head sends a message for me to reach for my shoes and then walk Gotta go to work, gotta go to work, gotta have a job Goes through the parking lot fields Doesn't see no signs that they will yield And then thought, this'll never end This'll never end, this'll never stop Message read on the bathroom wall Says, "I don't feel at all like I fall." This Chad guy is really messed up. It seems more eerie than it should be. I mean all it is is something do do with multiplayer, but we think of it as a conspiracy? Whatever. I'll be checking back regularly for updates, but i'm not gonna get too excited about anything until the actual info is released.

Ok. Found this in that interview. It sums up everything we know, and don't know.
What You Now Should Know
--The Warp Pipe Team is working on a new project for the Nintendo DS that’ll enhance the social aspect of online multiplayer.
--The DS is capable of producing multiplayer signals well beyond the 30-100 feet range, or even the nationwide Wi-Fi.
--Nintendo, whether this is related to the existing Warp Pipe project or not, is interested in creating a system by which DS users can download new content, updates, and more.
--The DS has the ability to “link” to other DS’s in a large-scale area by utilizing hot-spots, though it is not known if this ability will be utilized via this project. In other words, 10 players in the 30-100 feet range can find 10 more in the vicinity of, say, an entire college campus.
--The Warp pipe service will launch later this year.
--Several publishers and developers are amongst the select few "in the know".
--N-Sider will break the news (at least in part) by mid-October, following an NDA that was signed, with the full blown announcement scheduled to debut a bit later.
What Remains To Be Confirmed
--Is there a connection between Chad’s team and the Nintendo corporation?
--Is Warp Pipe Technologies now an officially licensed software developer?
--Who will support this new feature, aside from the aforementioned third parties?
--Will the new feature come embedded with the DS, or will it function via an external peripheral of sorts?
--Will similar technologies come implmented into Nintendo's Revolution to offer a revolutionary, *free* online service? Remember, Nintendo never wanted to go online this generation to avoid having to charge extra for services, ala Sony and Microsoft. Iwata said they were researching ways to go online without having to do so. Could this be the answer? Will a social, new online experience come straight out of the box?

Good read, but not anything I couldn't have done by myself.
Some new goods at IGN that can probably be incorporated into this whole ordeal:
September 29, 2004 - Fans of the upcoming Nintendo DS may be well aware of the recently announced special Nintendo DS conference on October 7th. During this event, Nintendo will be letting the press try several games. And while the company has yet to announce an official list of the titles making an appearance at the conference, expect Metroid Prime: Hunters and Mario 64x4. There's also a strong chance that Nintendo will show third party titles such as Urbz: Sims in the City.
Nintendo of Japan announced today that the Nintendo DS conference would be just one of three such events during the month of October. The other two, taking place October 13th and 14th, will cater toward the press and retailers. During these two days, Nintendo will showcase its Holiday line-up, including both hardware and software. As before, the DS will be available for hands-on testing.
GameCube titles Mario Party 6 and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat will make an appearance, as will Yoshi no Banyuuin Ryoko (Yoshi's Universal Gravitation) for the Game Boy Advance. Nintendo also announced it will show games in addition to those mentioned above, but has not officially released an specifics. Gamers and members of the press will both need to wait until the conference to see which games Nintendo plans on unveiling.
Stay tuned for more details.
So, there are more conferences. Maybe, if Nintendo is in fact involved in this, they'll announce this new "revolutionary step" at that time.
I'll continue to keep everyone updated as more news breaks.

Sorry. Another dot slash person. Searched DS and it came up.
Personally I think you guys are putting to much thought into this. I mean it doesn't matter what this secret is cause we can't get the DS anyway until Nov. 22
But I still like the Marketing stretegy they are doing. Lets see SONY top that for the PSP.

This is just what I first thought when I saw the slot/jack thing next to the headphone jack, but doesn't it look exactly like the slot you use to attach remote controls for cd players? For those that have no clue what I'm talking about, here's a picture of one - couldn't find closeups of the slot itself, though. http://www.yanyan.com.hk/images/prodimg ... 516250.jpg
Still, this is just an idea. After all, what *would* they do with a remote-control-ish thing for the DS?
Yeah, I'm also from Slashdot.

Good point, EE. Panasonic and Nintendo are pretty close. However, I don't think there is much of a connection to make yet based on that word.
Although, I guess its a good possibility. Dean posted something about how that Gamers Mark article was all wrong, but I don't know...some people cover up the truth to make it look like a lie, so they can still have lots of attention still focued on themselves. I'm not attacking Dean in any way, I'm just saying there's been times like that.
Hell, look at Nintendo. They lie all the time.

Chad sez on N-Sider:

purog is simply an anagram / acronym combo. Arranged it spells "Group". It also stands for Players United Revolutionizing Online Gaming. Do with it as you please. Now everyone nod like you understand and tell my lawyer to quit calling.

I took alittle time and re typed that out backwards and got this poem.
orbiting pods, underwater domes - We fill our tanks with oxygen to step outside out homes.
Once it was hard, now it's just routine And I can't tell the difference between people and machine.
Love was a problem for our ancestors; It's not such a problem anymore. Breeding as a science proved it has no use at all And it mostly disappeared when we eliminated war.
There's comfort and control, it's safe for you and me. News for the surface shows how hard life there can be.
Why live in danger? Why live with pain? People from the surface find it hard to explain.
And every little thing is strictly monitored; We're given everything we need. Fed by I.V., we rarely need to sleep - There's no pointless dreaming and out happiness is guaranteed.
